A Great Year

The Parents and Grandparents Fund celebrated a nearly 5 percent increase in participation, and for the second year in a row raised more than $2.25 million. "Thank you for a great year," said Fund director Heidi Anderson. "We kept the momentum going."

The number of donors increased to 1,912 from 1,830 as parents and grandparents gave $2.33 million, sustaining a level of giving that has grown consistently over the past three years.

Beth Meyer '96, Director of Family Fellows and Associate Director of Family Leadership Giving, applauded the efforts of the Fund's volunteer committees. "The volunteers have been working very hard," Meyer said. "They've helped families really see the impact that their gifts have on the Dartmouth Experience."

Gifts through the Fund support teaching faculty, financial aid, athletics, and programs in support of culture and community, including the Tucker Foundation and the arts.

Volunteer co-chairs Julie and John H. Mathias Jr. '69 P'07, '09, '09, '11, '11 and Lynn and Peter Wendell P'08 ascribed the Fund's success to the commitment parents and grandparents have made. "Parents and grandparents have stepped up and have become a very important part of giving," said John Mathias. "Julie and I are delighted to be part of the effort."

"The parents Lynn and I talk to are universally thrilled with the education their sons and daughters are getting," said Peter Wendell. Noting that fully a third of all parent gifts are from parents of former students, he added, "We hope that even when students have graduated, parents will remember that the value of their student's education endures, as do the needs of Dartmouth."
