A Message From the Director of the Parents and Grandparents Fund

Dear Parents and Grandparents,

Our purpose in the Parents and Grandparents Fund is to bring our families closer to the Dartmouth Experience. For example, during First-Year Family Weekend (April 27-29, 2007), parents meet a panel of seniors from the Honor Society who reflect upon their years at Dartmouth and answer questions on how students can get the most out of a Dartmouth Experience. During Sophomore Family Weekend (July 27-29, 2007), the Fund introduces parents to world-renowned members of the Dartmouth faculty.

The times when parents visit their students in Hanover are special, and we in the Parents and Grandparents Fund hope the campus becomes your home away from home. This issue of our newsletter includes information to familiarize you with the College and the Upper Valley and to make it easier for you to plan future trips. And please don't wait for move-in days or a Family Weekend to visit, because every season offers something different.

Think about joining other Dartmouth families this fall during Homecoming Weekend. Stay in a bed and breakfast, be dazzled by the foliage, watch Big Green athletic teams compete, and explore New England villages.

Winter, when the campus is blanketed with snow, is another wonderful season here. You can ski at Dartmouth's own family-friendly ski area, or curl up with a good book in front of the fireplace after a Sunday brunch at the Hanover Inn.

New Hampshire's infamous mud season (a.k.a. spring) is a great time to explore the Hood Museum of Art or attend a performance at the Hopkins Center for the Arts. We have included links to schedules of exhibits at the Hood and events at the Hop for your convenience.

Or pay us a visit during New Hampshire's glorious summer months. Begin your day with breakfast at Lou's Diner in Hanover then go canoeing on the Connecticut River.

Every student's Dartmouth Experience is supported by the generosity of our families. Thank you. And remember, there are plenty of wonderful times to visit the campus and experience Dartmouth for yourself.

Sincerely,

Heidi Anderson, Director
Parents and Grandparents Fund
